New Ballet and Modern Dance Performing Ensemble
Auditioning for Students Ages 14-25
DETROIT, Michigan, April 26, 2007…This Summer, the Detroit Opera House - Detroit Residence of The Joffrey Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, The Kirov Ballet and other world-class ballet companies becomes the home of an exciting new dance ensemble: The Detroit Opera House Civic Dance Ensemble.
This pre-professional dance ensemble is open to dancers 14 25 and is under the direction of former Joffrey Ballet dancer, Michael Anderson. The ensemble will meet once a week to take classes and learn repertory which will culminate in performances at the Detroit Opera House. Criteria for acceptance into the Civic Dance Ensemble at the Detroit Opera House include ballet and modern dance training, commitment to progressively challenging technique classes and significant interest in performance.
Auditions for the Detroit Opera House Civic Dance Ensemble will be held at the Margo V. Cohen Dance Center at the Detroit Opera House, May 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. Detroit Public Schools students who would like to audition may audition at the following sites: June 18 from 3:30 4:30 at Renaissance High School, June 19 from 3:30 4:30 at Cass Tech High School, and June 20 from 3:30 4:30 at King High School.
Future plans for the Ensemble include participation in the Michigan Opera Theatre season, touring educational programs and full-length concerts.
