Giving Tuesday: A Chance to Bring Opera to Detroit Area Schools
After the frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to give back to the community by making a charitable contribution.
This year, Michigan Opera Theatre is asking the community for their support for a specific program: bringing opera to Detroit area schools.
Arts and culture are a significant part of children’s education, connecting them to a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the world around them and supporting intellectual and creative development. Unfortunately, too many children lack access to arts and culture and the opportunity to fully develop these parts of their minds.
Each year Michigan Opera Theatre delivers a vibrant youth opera program to underserved Detroit area schools and invites these same students to the Detroit Opera House for a full performance of one of our main stage productions.
This year, we are bringing the magical opera of Rumpelstiltskin, and a deliciously funny one-act opera La Pizza Con Funghi to schools and youth across Metro Detroit.
The cost to bring youth opera programs to one Metro Detroit school is roughly $750. Our goal is to bring our youth opera to 10 new underserved Metro Detroit schools in 2017.
As you consider your holiday and end-of-year charitable gifts, consider donating to Michigan Opera Theatre and supporting our efforts in bringing opera, music and culture to our area youth and ensuring an appreciation for the arts for the next generation.
